The Eucharist The service during which the bread and wine are blessed and consecrated, as the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, is called many things. It may be advertised as The Lord's Supper, The Eucharist, Holy Communion, or The Mass. Each of these titles has its own meaning, but all describe the wonderful event which echoes the Last Supper of our Lord. It is His words which give us the meaning for what the Priest does at the Altar. When our Lord says to His disciples that, "This is my Body, this is my Blood, do this in memory of me" he not only gave us this special meal to sustain and prepare us, but also reminds us that he has given His very being for our salvation. To this end we believe that this is the most precious and wonderful Service granted to us, and so we attend the Eucharist as often as we are able. Christ Church Saint Laurence is one of very few parishes in Sydney where the Priests celebrate the Eucharist daily. |
