The Fieri Consort – ‘Out of the Shadows’
Sunday 27 August, 2pm

Tickets $30 and $20, available at the door.

By arrangement with St Laurence Music Inc.

The Fieri Consort, winners of the Cambridge Early Music Prize at the 2017 York Early Music Festival’s International Young Artists Competition, is one of the UK’s most exciting young vocal groups and specialises in the rich and varied repertoire of 16th and 17th century Italy. Working without a conductor, Fieri’s interpretations are informed by the collective experience and knowledge of the group.

Reflecting on the transition from darkness to light, ‘Out of the Shadows’ moves from the intensity of the murderous Prince Carlo Gesualdo and the tortuous chromaticism of Lassus’ Sibylline Prophecies to the searingly beautiful harmonies of 21st-century MacMillan. The programme also includes some unusual American ‘shape note’ singing, a stark and wonderfully anachronistic style preserved nearly intact from early settlers and not often heard outside of the deep south.

Luther500 Concert

Sunday 15 October

A concert marking the 500th Anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation featuring Max Reger’s Phantasie on Ein fest burg played by Kurt Ison, other Lutheran organ works performed by Peter Jewkes and Joshua Ryan, and the Christ Church St Laurence Choir with soloists and orchestra will perform J. S. Bach’s monumental Cantata Ein feste burg.
